Biography

I am a highly motivated and passionate Associate Lecturer and Operating Department Practitioner who has been registered with the HCPC since 2019. I have a keen interest in immersive simulated based education and thrive working in an environment where I can facilitate real life experiences. Whilst working for the NHS, I worked with both Adult and Paediatric patients within Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Emergencies, Orthopaedic Trauma, Plastic Surgery, and during the Covid-19 Pandemic I worked in intensive care. I am aware of my professional responsibilities and boundaries with students within a variety of environments. My experience as an ODP has made me highly resilient, able to adapt to change and remain calm during conflict or emergency situations. Whilst working in clinical practice, I mentored and advised a variety of students studying toward many allied health professional and medical degrees. I am an advocate of evidence-based practice and reflect regularly on experiences working within the ever changing/innovating sector of health and higher education.

Teaching and Supervision

I am required to work both collaboratively and autonomously, manage and teach large groups of students and plan content for upcoming clinical skills and simulation sessions. I deliver varied (adult, paediatric, mental health, learning disability) simulated based education to the student nurses as a part of their four-week simulated placement, which takes place within the University simulation suites. Following this four-week rotation, I evaluate student feedback and ensure that any changes required are actioned in an appropriate time frame. During the placement, I am required to act as a Practice Supervisor liaising with the Practice Assessor regarding student progress. I also facilitate moving and handling training, suicide first aid training and basic life support training.
