Dr Heather Wilkinson

Biography

Dr Heather Wilkinson teaches and supervises students on the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree programmes in the Department of Psychology, specialising in the areas of cognitive neuropsychology and also mental health. Dr Wilkinson is also a Careers and Employability Link Tutor for the Department. Heather graduated with a BA (Hons) Psychology with English Literature Degree from the University of Chester in 1999 and consequently attained her PhD by studying the 'Long - Term Forgetting of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Patients' in 2006.

Teaching and Supervision

Dr Heather Wilkinson teaches Biological and Cognitive Psychology at Level 4 Undergraduate level. Heather has taught a varied set of modules over the years, ranging from Introduction to Research Methods modules to Cognitive Psychology and also Mental Health - focused modules too. Heather supervises quantitative and qualitative research dissertations at BSc and MSc level on topics including Undergraduate students' and adults' attitudes towards adults and children with mental health disorders and its links to the media and careers and employability. Heather is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Dr Heather Wilkinson has conducted research into Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and forgetting and experimental research into the emotional processes involved in face recognition. Heather has also researched the area of Self - Respect and cognition and also the evaluation of Cancer survivor support groups. Heather's research has been supported by funding from internal grants.
