Biography

I began my teaching career in 1990 after gaining a B.ED (Hons) with Psychology. I taught in mainstream settings for 8 years, working with Nursery, Reception and Year 1. I spent two more years working with children with multi-sensory impairment in a specialist provision. I then move to teaching in FE and HE with 16-18 year olds and mature students training to work with young childdren. I was Programme Leader for the Level 3 children's workforce qualifications and also Programme Leader for one of the first FdA qualifications in Early Years Practice (2004 - 2011), validated by Liverpool John Moores University. I have worked at the University of Chester for over 13 years, acting as Programme Leader for the BA Early Childhood Studies.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

My key research interests are in practitioner pedagogy and intergenerational practice. I am particularly interested in the role of grandparents in supporting young children's learning. I am currently at the thesis writing stage for my EdD qualification which is exploring the effects of situating a nursery within a residential village.
