Jason Clare

Biography

Jason Clare is a Senior Lecturer in Sport, in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester, UK. Formerly based at the Warrington Campus, with the Department of Sport and Community Engagement and more latterly Sport @Warrington under the Warrington Business School, Jason joined the teaching team on the Exton Park Campus of the University of Chester in 2021, taking on the role of Programme Leader for the MA Sports Coaching and Development programme at that time. A former rugby league head coach in the community game, with experience at all age group levels, Jason’s teaching specialism lies in Sports Coaching and Psychology.

Teaching and Supervision

Jason is a very experienced senior lecturer in sport, having taught across many components of the broad discipline area and specialising in sports coaching and psychology. He has accrued experience in teaching and leading modules (and programmes) from Sports Development and Community Engagement, through Sports Coaching and to Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology and from Foundation degree to Master’s degree level, for over 25 years. Jason has a post graduate teaching qualification (PGCE post 16) and also has experience managing collaborative provision with former FE partners Coleg Cambria, University College Isle of Man and Cheshire College South and West.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Teaching is research informed through regular and sustained engagement with contemporary peer reviewed publications in Sport and Exercise Science, and Sports Coaching and Pedagogy. Current areas of particular research interest; learning climates & motivation, relational coaching & satisfaction of basic psychological needs, athlete centred coaching.
