Biography

Julie Dulson is Head of Division, Nursing and Healthcare Education at the University Centre Birkenhead, (UCB) Faculty of Head, Medicine and Society, University of Chester, UK. Julie provides strategic direction, academic leadership and line management of academic staff within the division based at UCB and for the academic staff who deliver the MSc. Advanced Clinical Practice and Non Medical Prescribing programmes. Julie is a registered Mental Health Nurse and worked in a variety of settings specialising in the delivery of psychosocial interventions and cognitive behavioural therapy to people experiencing psychosis. Julie is a Senior Fellow of the Advance HE and has extensive experience as a nurse academic. Her key previous academic roles include head of department with strategic responsibility for simulation within the faculty and Director of Pre-registration Nursing.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Julie is in the final stages of her professional doctorate and her thesis is a feminist narrative study exploring the experiences of female nurse academics undertaking a doctoral thesis and the impact of their doctoral journeys on their identity. This study highlights the challenges nurse academics face whilst attempting to balance multiple roles and responsibilities during their doctoral journeys and the emotional, physical and psychological effects of those challenges.
