Biography
I qualified as a nurse in 1997 and have remained on the NMC register. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings and roles. In 2003 I was appointed as a trainee nurse practitioner at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. While in post I completed my MSc Advanced Clinical Practice and Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP). I relocated to the North West In 2012 and joined University of Chester in 2016. It is my Advanced Clinical Practice role that has shaped my academic career. I have been a HEA fellow (advance HE) since 2018 and a Senior HEA Fellow (advanced HE) since 2023.
Teaching and Supervision
I began my academic role within the pre registration nursing programme and remain there for 2 years. In 2018 my clinical roles began to shape my academic roles and I moved over to teach predominantly on Post Graduate programmes. I was the NMP programme lead from 2018- 2023 and I have been the Advanced Clinical Practice Programme lead since 2021. During my time as a programme leader I have working with service users, clinical partners and students to review both programmes and take them through the redesign process. NMP has been successfully accredited with NMC, GPhC and HCPC several times and most recently our Advanced Clinical Practice programme has achieved Programme accreditation with NHSE. My teaching interests remain very clinically focused and I predominantly now teach on the MSC Advanced Clinical Practice. My other teaching activities sit with the skills and simulation sessions in the undergraduate nursing programmes.
