Deputy Head, Nursing and Healthcare Education
Biography
I have had many years’ experience working as a staff nurse and team leader in forensic services. I have also worked as a senior trainer in the NHS developing and delivering mandatory courses such as Care Co-ordination, Risk Assessment and Adult Safeguarding. After leaving the NHS I spent seven years working for Local Authority managing all required Mental Health training and also AMHP training. A major aspect of my role within Local Authority was to embed service user and carer involvement throughout all services. My external role is as an independent safeguarding investigator for local authorities in North Wales. I joined the University of Chester at the start of 2014 after finishing my Masters Degree.
Teaching and Supervision
I am the Deputy Head of Division for Nursing and Healthcare at Wheeler. I teach MH field specific sessions/Leadership and Management on Pre Reg, Post Reg modules. I am a Mental Health First Aid/Suicide First Aid facilitator.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
My research interests include Service User involvement, Safeguarding Adults, Forensic Nursing and Wellness Recovery Action Planning. I have been involved in researching and writing MHFA one day course for staff/students in HE. I have worked in partnership with NMS and Welsh Government to develop numerous training packages for post qualified staff.
