Biography

Name: Dr Jenni Templeman Job Title: Senior Lecturer Brief Description: I am a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society. Qualifications: RN, RM, Dip Intensive Care Nursing Science, BSc Nursing, PG Cert (Professional Education), FHEA, M Research, D Prof (Health and Social Care). Overview: My career in clinical nursing practice spans many years working in intensive care units in both southern and northern hemisphere countries and the helicopter trauma services in the southern hemisphere. My remit included roles as a professional nurse, intensive care unit manager and practice education facilitator. 15 years ago my role extended to academia at the University of Chester.

Teaching and Supervision

Teaching: My teaching remit covers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate studies and I supervise BN degree, Master degree and Doctorate students. Currently I am principal supervisor to 5 doctorate students and 3 of my previous doctorate students have attained doctoral status. I also supervise Masters students. I am committed to ensuring a meaningful student learning journey of discovery to ensure that nursing education has a rigorous evidence-base. My main area of expertise in teaching and learning is in critical care nursing, traumatology, aviation medicine and the milieu of ethnographic research. Research: I am interested in exploring the sociological and anthropological aspects of critical care nursing, research, evidence -based practice and cultural awareness in nursing and health care. I attained my professional doctorate in 2015 employing an ethnographic methodology which explored nurses’ experiences following the decision to withdrawal life-sustaining treatment from critically ill patients in a British ICU.
