Biography

Kathryn (Katy) Baker is a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes in the Centre for Student Exchange and Language Developement in the Faculty of Art, Humanties and Social Sciences at the University of Chester.

Teaching and Supervision

Before coming to the University of Chester I taught on UG insessional Business-related ESAP courses and PG presessional Education, Buiness and Architecture-related ESAP courses. I have also taught Business English and Engish for refugees. At the University of Chester I teach ESAP on insessional courses to Business School and Medical School PG students.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Katy has conducted a small case study on presessional course efficacy. Katy is interested in researching current questions within the field of English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) such as how to make the best use of technology in the ESAP classroom. She is also interested in researching language teacher training and how students with a refugee background can best supported to achieve their full potential in higher education in the UK.
