Biography
Dr Katie Mansfield-Loynes in the Programme Leader for the FdSc Nursing Associate programme at University Centre Shrewsbury. Dr Mansfield-Loynes has led on the programme since it's beginning in 2017. Dr Mansfield-Loynes provides leadership the the programme team as well as leading on the apprenticeship requirements for the programme across all sites. Dr Mansfield-Loynes is a registered nurse and is on the NMC register. Dr Mansfield-Loynes spent her clinical career within the social care sector and has worked both clinically and strategically with care of the elderly. Katie was on the trailblazers for levels 2 & 3 care apprenticeships and the original RNDA programme. Dr Mansfield-Loynes has been involved within policy making working groups for the Department of Health & Social Care.
Teaching and Supervision
Dr Mansfield-Loynes has led on the Nursing Associate programme since 2017. She worked alongside Health Education England for the pilot of the programme and has since revalidated it with the NMC. Dr Mansfield-Loynes teaches across both years of the programme and particularly enjoys promoting the professional and personal lifelong learning agenda as well as the person centered care tenet that is central to the programme. Dr Mansfield-Loynes has acted as an internal examiner for other doctoral submissions and is currently supervising other doctoral students.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Dr Mansfield-Loynes completed her doctoral thesis in 2021: Conversations with a nursing home: An ethnographic study of the lived experience of residents, visitors and staff. Dr Mansfield-Loynes maintains a strong research interest in gerontology and has also published with the Journal of Dementia Care. She is also interested in the use of apprenticeships in widening participation within the nursing education system. Dr Mansfield-Loynes is very interested in narrative research which has the aim of understanding the lived experience of people within a given topic.
