Biography

Lizzie is Senior Tehcnical Officer in the School of Natural Sciences. She undertook an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Lancaster University and a postgraduate degree in Conservation Biology at Manchester Metropolitan University. After completing her postgraduate degree, she worked at Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre in Manchester where she worked in and supervised the Bioanalysis Lab. She then went on to work in the Clinical Sciences and Nutrition department here at the University of Chester mainly supervised student projects in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and cell culture before moving to the School of Natural Sciences.

Teaching and Supervision

Lizzie works on a number of modules across all programmes in the department with a main focus on Microbiology providing support for both laboratory classes and projects. Technical support incudes includes growing bacterial cultures, preparing reagents for laboratory practicals and demonstrating practical techniques. The main modules she works on are, Cell Biology and Biochemistry, Introduction to Microbiology and Immunology Microbiology for Animal Science and Research Methods

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Lizzie's dissertation research focused on host plant selection by orange tip (Anthocharis cardamines) butterfly using multivariate analysis to determine on which plant they preferred to lay their eggs. While working at Manchester University her main area of research interest was the development of HPLC techniques for the analysis of Radiometabolites in blood sample for the molecular imaging technique of Positron Emission Tomography (PET).
