Mark Hancock
Visiting Lecturer

Mark delivers the ML7204 Phonology module on the MA TESOL. As well as teaching and training, Mark has been writing and publishing ELT materials, beginning with Pronunciation Games (CUP, 1995). His self-published collection PronPack received the 2018 ELTons award for innovation in teacher resources and he has also written or co-authored numerous course books.
Mark is a teacher, trainer, and author of many ELT pronunciation titles including Pronunciation Games and English Pronunciation in Use Intermediate and Mark Hancock’s 50 Tips for Teaching Pronunciation (all CUP). His self-published collection PronPack received the 2018 ELTons award for innovation in teacher resources. He has also written or co-authored numerous course books, both international and market-specific. Mark co-founded the teaching website www.hancockmcdonald.com. He also shares articles and materials on www.pronpack.com.
Mark has been involved in English Language Teaching (ELT) for around four decades. He has taught in Sudan, Turkey, Brazil, Spain and the UK, and has presented on training courses and conferences worldwide. Mark did his first degree at the University of St. Andrews. His ELT career began with preliminary teacher training courses at Pilgrims, Canterbury and International House, London. He did his Masters in Teaching English as a distance learning programme with Aston University while living in Madrid. He has a special interest in pronunciation teaching, motivation and materials design
Mark delivers regular international training courses online on the topic of teaching pronunciation. He is also a visiting lecturer on the MA TESOL programme at the University of Chester, where he delivers module ML7204 Phonology.
Mark has a particular interest in how to present the complexity of English phonology in a way which is accessible and motivating to both teachers and learners.
