Dr Mark Duffett

Biography
Dr Mark Duffett is Associate Professor in the Communication, Screen and Performance Division of University of Chester's School for Creative Industries. In a career at Chester of over 25 years, he has taught across all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to everything from student admissions to maintaining a productive staff research environment. Dr Duffett has also established himself as a music and media scholar of international standing whose work has attracted significant academic and media interest.
Teaching and Supervision
Dr Duffett is a highly flexible and versatile teacher who works across a range of different modules on programmes including Music Journalism, Journalism, Media Studies and Film Studies. He has been an External Examiner for undergraduate programmes in film and media at two outside universities, and supervised, examined, and chaired vivas for various PhD students. Dr Duffett is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Dr Duffett's research interests centre on music fandom and Elvis Presley, but the scope of his concerns is significantly broader. It has included various topics in popular music and film studies, such as race, gender, technology, religion, listening, biography, monstrosity, documentary, disability, heritage and celebrity. Much of his best known work has been on the contours and possibilities of media and music fandom as a form of identity.
