Dr Matthew Garrett

Biography
Dr Matt Garrett has been a member of the Law School since it began teaching in 2005/6. He has had responsibility for a number of matters in the time since then but has the current responsibilities. He acts as the Level 6 Lead which entails organising regular meetings to consider aspects of learning, teaching and student engagement at that level. He also acts as a coordinator for the Law School's Open and Applicant Day activities. He is an active member of staff with regards to supporting outreach activities running a number of taster sessions and other events each year. He also acts as the staff lead for a staff student partnership called Milking It For Money. This seeks to raise money for good causes and raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing.
Teaching and Supervision
Dr Matt Garrett's primary teaching responsibility lies within the field of Contract Law. He has over 20 years experience of teaching undergraduate contract law and remains an active and dynamic lecturer within this subject area. Matt also teaches Commercial Law and seeks to provide students with a broad and authentic experience of what working in such a field of law entails. Matt has also taught in the following areas- Equity and Trusts, Tort Law, Public Law and Legal History. He has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Dr Matt Garrett's initial academic research lay within the field of Legal History with a focus on the Poor Law and the use of institutions and bureaucracy as tools of social control. Matt has also researched within the area of diversity and equality, with a particular focus on the BAME experience of Higher Education.
