Dr Matt Geary
Associate Professor
Biography
Matt Geary is an Associate Professor in Conservation Biology/Animal Behaviour within the School of Natural Sciences. Matt is the REF coordinator and research lead for the School and the Faculty Postgraduate Tutor. Matt chairs the School of Natural Sciences Research committee, the Faculty PGR sub-committee and is the programme leader for MRes Biological Sciences and MSc Wildlife Conservation.
Teaching and Supervision
Matt teaches on a range of subjects with a primary focus on conservation and ecology. He also teaches statistical and field methods related to these subjects. Matt teaches at all levels within the school of Natural Sciences and has experience in the design and validation of both programmes and modules.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Matt's focuses on the conservation of threatened species both in the UK and internationally. Matt's work focuses on optimising survey methods as well as using statistical and ecological models to identify vulnerable demographic features, investigate habitat associations and provide evidence-based advice for land managers and conservationists. Matt's primary focus is on bird conservation and he currently works on a number of critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable species. Matt also has experience in working on conservation projects involving mammals, amphibians and invertebrates.
