Senior Software Engineer
Biography
Neil Hawker is a Senior Software Engineer in the School of Computer and Engineering within the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise. He is part of the Informatics Centre team who develop digital solutions for both internal and external clients to the University of Chester. Neil is also part of a team who support the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise's specialist computing infrastructure and network.
Teaching and Supervision
Neil utilises his industry knowledge and expertise to support development of the computing subjects, ensuring students are exposed to industry best practices and tools. Neil is also a mentor on the CO5019 – experiential learning module, where students have the option to work in the Informatics Centre for 6 weeks to produce software products for a commercial client whilst being mentored by staff within the Centre.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Neil is not directly engaged with research, however, the Informatics Centre help to build software solutions for research studies and support research in this way. Neil has contributed to the successful development of numerous software and web applications being utilised by businesses. Neil also develops in-house solutions for the Faculty of Science, Business & Enterprise, as well as the Probationary Review system for HR, and the Student Relationship Manager for the University which requires integration with other business systems.
