Paul Humphries

Biography

Paul Humphries is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester, UK. He is also Programme Leader for BSc Honours Sports Coaching and Partnership Link Tutor. He is a UKCC Level 3 coach in Rugby League and works for The Rugby Football League as a Coach Educator, tutoring on their Level 1 and level 2 coaching courses. Paul is also currently an England Rugby League Player Development Coach actively coaching on the girls’ regional talent hubs, as well as working as a coach with Swinton Lionesses RLFC.

Teaching and Supervision

Paul is an experienced lecturer in sport, having taught coaching over a number of years and focussing more recently on talent identification and development. He teaches sports coaching concepts and the coaching process through both theoretical and practical delivery and supervises students on undergraduate dissertations in these and related fields. Paul is a Higher Education Academy Teaching Fellow and as Partnership Link Tutor manages collaborative provision with University College Isle of Man and St Helens College.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Research that informs teaching are in the areas of pedagogy and in particular the game sense approach, coaching philosophy, analysing coach behaviours, athlete-centred coaching, coach education and learning and talent identification and development.
