Biography

Professor Paul Kingston is Director of the Centre for Ageing and Mental Health in Chester Medical School, & Director of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Chester. My qualifications are: RNMH, RMN, RNT, MA, PhD, FRSPH, ARSH Alongside my academic roles I have chaired numerous local authority, charity and NHS Safeguarding Adult Boards. I was the founding chair of NHS England's Safeguarding Adults National Network, and also co-chair of NHS England's National Safeguarding Steering Group from 2018-2021 with Professor Hilary Garratt. I was Non Executive Director at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic NHS Trust from 2018-2023 - in my last year I was Senior NED and Deputy Chair. Currently I chair the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Adult Board. I hold a Public Health Honorary Academic position with the UKHSA. In November 2024 I was appointed CHAIR: Cheshire and Mersey Integrated Care Board Research and Innovation Committee

Teaching and Supervision

I have 6 PhD students currently - 4 part-tine and 2 Full-time. I have supervised 24 students to PhD completion.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

My research interests focus on the sociology of ageing - Gerontology, with a particular interest in quality of life, social connectivity, and ageing well. Mental health in later life has also been a constant part of my research interest.. The third area of research focuses on Safeguarding in later life. Currently my h-index is 29, i10 is 61 with 3365 citations on Google Scholar. Editorial board membership includes: Journal of Adult Protection - I was the founding author in 1999.
