Dr Robert Noonan
Professor of Public Health
Biography
Rob Noonan is Professor of Public Health in the Division of Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing. He joined the University of Chester in 2024, having previously worked at the University of Bolton, University of Liverpool, Edge Hill University and Liverpool John Moores University. His teaching experience in higher education spans public health, psychology, physical education and sport and exercise science.
Teaching and Supervision
Rob teaches on the Master of Public Health programme. He is module leader for Epidemiology and Statistics for Public Health and contributes to dissertation supervision.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Rob’s research explores the environmental and behavioural determinants of health and wellbeing. Specific research interests include physical activity promotion, obesity, wellbeing and health inequalities. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in these areas and supervised several PhDs through to completion. His book, Capitalism, Health and Wellbeing: Rethinking Economic Growth for a Healthier, Sustainable Future exposes how the relentless pursuit of economic growth under capitalism is at odds with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to achieve a healthier, more socially just and more sustainable future.
