Paul Roberts
Senior Lecturer
Biography
I am an HCPC registered Senior Lecturer/Practitioner in Biomedical Science, with over twenty years’ experience as a Biomedical Scientist in NHS Medical Microbiology Laboratories. I am the program leader for the BSc Biomedical Science course having previously led the MSc Biomedical Science course at my previous institution. I am an active fellow of the Institute for Biomedical Science (IBMS) with recent notable engagement in the form of committee membership of the North Staffordshire branch and volunteering at IBMS congress.
Teaching and Supervision
I am keen to explore alternative means of undergraduate Biomedical Science students acquiring clinical experience, e.g., providing clinical simulations in academia in the absence of clinical placements in the NHS. I am also passionate about how apprenticeship degrees can develop career opportunities for students.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
I am interested in mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, how this can be overcome and their epidemiology/infection control in the hospital setting. Other research interests include the pathogenesis and molecular epidemiology of gastrointestinal bacterial pathogens, particularly Clostridioides difficile. I am a peer reviewer for Anaerobe journal.
