Biography

Professor Steven Jones is mental health and Research lead at Chester Medical School. He is an experienced clinician, educator and widely published researcher. Steven is a PhD project supervisor and examiner. He is a former member of the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIHME/CSIP) Suicide and Self-harm Working Group, NHS SDO Research Community and Member of NETSCC College of Experts, National Research Grants Committee (GRAM) member for The Brain Tumour Charity, NIHR grant reviewer and COVID-19 SAGE Outbreak Expert Database for Mental Health. In UK and India he has worked with hard to engage settings and individuals following attempted suicide. He has been a consultant adviser / educator on many NHS Trust projects for over 20 years. He is a specialist peer reviewer for many international Journals. External roles include; Adjunct Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology, MCHP, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India. Consultant Adviser - Youth mental health for World Awareness for Children in Trauma (WACIT).

Teaching and Supervision

Steve is responsible for leading Psychiatry and PG Cert Neuro-developmental conditions courses. He regularly teaches on clinical and science based courses over the wider faculty within his specialty areas. Steve has significant experience in teaching interdisciplinary staff from a wide range of settings. He has been project leader for international education and mental health research projects, largely in India. Specialist educational areas include deliberate self-harm, suicide and later life cognitive disorders. Steve has been a consultant educator on many NHS Trust projects including violence, substance misuse, suicide and deliberate self-harm risk.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

He has been a project leader and co-investigator for many international education and mental health research projects and outputs.
