Prof Tim Grady

Biography

Tim Grady is Professor of Modern European History and also Director of the Culture and Society Research and Knowledge Exchange Institute (RKEI) at the University of Chester. The RKEI is an interdisciplinary institute that brings together over 200 researchers, providing a platform for collaborations, public events and external partnerships. Professor Grady is an international scholar of twentieth century British and German history, who has received major funding awards, published extensively in academic and public forums. He currently leads the MA History and teaches at all levels of the undergraduate programme.

Teaching and Supervision

Professor Grady teaches a range of undergraduate modules covering topics from the Great War through to the interwar German Weimar Republic. At MA level, he leads modules on research methods and on the commemoration of the world wars. He also supervises taught and postgraduate research theses, and welcomes new doctoral enquiries.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

As a social and cultural historian of modern Europe, much of Professor Grady’s research has explored the human experience of the world wars and the contested legacies of conflict. His main research themes include: - Jewish/non-Jewish relations - The First and Second World Wars - Interwar Germany - War and memory - The Holocaust - British-German relations
