Biography
Senior Lecturer and Learning, Teaching and Assessment Lead - School of Education, University of Chester CAID Affiliate - (Centre for Academic Innovation and Development) - University of Chester Senior Fellow Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society/ Institute of British Geographers (FRGS) Chartered Geographer (CGeog) Wendy Patricia Garner has been in post as a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education for nearly thirty years. Wendy currently teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes provided by the School of Education at the University of Chester. Modules taught during her time at Chester include curriculum geography, curriculum history and a range of general education and professional courses for students in Initial Teacher Education (undergraduate and postgraduate). This includes the dissertation for the BAQTS programme, which Wendy has developed and delivered over a number of years. She has also in the past, contributed to the Education Studies degree route and to the Masters programme - The Psychology of Educational Leadership. Over many years, Wendy has sustained a commitment to teaching across both departments within the School of Education and since 2013, has also been in post as Senior University Teaching Fellow and more recently, as CAID Affiliate. In addition, she has worked as consultant and External Examiner within six other UK Higher Education Institutions. Between 1996 and 2002 Wendy also delivered a wide variety of courses provided by the Deanery of Arts and Sciences (Geography and Environmental Studies) and the Deanery of Education at Liverpool Hope University. Wendy was formerly a primary school teacher and geography co-ordinator and has taught children at Key Stages 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum. She has written numerous books for teachers, including BBC materials, and in the past has been a frequent contributor to periodicals like Primary Geographer and Junior Focus. Wendy is a regular provider of lectures and workshops at national and international conferences and in the past has provided extensive Continuing Professional Development courses for schools and Local Education Authorities. She has held a number of voluntary posts within professional organisations, including Research Officer of the Geographical Association and Trustee of the Field Studies Council. National work also includes involvement in writing the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) Schemes of Work for Geography (KS1 and 2) and contributions to the National Curriculum Review (2000), as a member of the Geography Task Force. Wendy has also worked as a more general consultant to QCA, identifying and detailing examples of innovative practice in learning and teaching for dissemination at national level.

Research and Knowledge Exchange
Wendy has wide ranging research interests, all of which relate to learning, teaching and assessment, and within a range of contexts. She has completed her M.Ed. with Distinction (‘Enquiry as a pedagogical approach within the context of primary geography’) and her current research interests relate to working with Students as Partners. She currently holds a voluntary post as the RAISE (Researching Advancing and Inspiring Student Engagement) Partnership SIG Convenor.
