Wendi Heathcock
Senior Lecturer
Biography
I worked in the NHS for nearly 30 years before joining the University in 2020. My previous role was Radiotherapy Clinical Learning Facilitator at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) – a post I held for 14 years. This role involved managing the Therapeutic Radiography students assigned to the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, providing pastoral support to the students, assessing students clinically and managing the placement of other visitors and elective students across the radiotherapy department. I am an experienced lecturer and has taught on University of Chester modules run at CCC and was also an honorary lecturer with the University of Liverpool. My particular area of interest is students’ expectations of clinical practice prior to going on placement and enhancing placement quality through mentorship. I am passionate about promoting professionalism in practice, both in students and qualified staff. I feel that the introduction of the Physician Associate programme at the University of Chester is an exciting development. Well trained Physician Associates are assets to the NHS and work in both primary and secondary care. They provide vital services in the diagnosis and treatment of patients which ultimately improves patient care.
