Chester train staion

Claim between £10 and £30 depending on the distance you are travelling (not means-tested).

We know that rising costs are affecting lots of people at the moment, so we’re offering a contribution towards your travel costs if you are attending an Applicant Day.

We also offer a travel bursary to support individuals who have specific characteristics typically underrepresented in HE.

Support available

We are able to provide a contribution of either £10, £20 or £30 towards your travel costs, depending on the distance you are travelling to the Applicant Day.

Please note that a distance calculator will be used to confirm the amount to be paid.

  • Up to 20 miles: £10
  • 20 – 49 miles: £20
  • 50 miles plus: £30

How to apply

Once an application has been approved following attendance at the Applicant Day, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access the payment via a third-party payment portal, JS. Group. If you have any queries regarding accessing your payment once you have received this email, please contact chesteraspire@johnsmith.co.uk

For queries regarding eligibility for the scheme or the Applicant Days in general, please contact visitus@chester.ac.uk

All awards are made on a discretionary basis, and are subject to funding. Each case will be assessed individually. A maximum of £30 per prospective student can be claimed. This scheme must not be used in conjunction with the Visit Us Travel Bursary also offered by the University. The Applicant Day Travel Expenses Claim Form must be completed in full and summited within one calendar month of the Applicant Day. The University's decision regarding the rate of reimbursement is final. It is not possible to claim for costs relating to more than one Applicant Day.
