Student Money Advisers

Managing your money effectively is a key part of being a student, and it’ll help you develop positive financial skills that will stay with you throughout your university life and beyond, benefiting you for years to come.
But, like all skills, it needs practice, and we understand that sometimes it can be tough.
We caught up with our Student Money Advisers, Carl and Sara, to find out the support they can offer you whilst at university.
Who are you, and what does a Student Money Adviser do?
We’re both Student Money Advisers and we’re part of the Your Money team in Student Services.
Alongside promoting positive money management skills across all our sites, a key part of our role is to offer one-to-one support and guidance to any student who has queries or questions about managing their money, so they can focus on enjoying their time at university.
How can you help me?
- In our one-to-one appointments, we can help you with budgeting, offer guidance on the financial support available from the University (and help you access this support if you’re eligible), as well as answer more general queries on matters such as debt, money management and student finance.
- Keep your eye out for the Student Shout Out newsletter every Monday, or visit our Chester Aspire site; we post lots of helpful content there to help students tackle important money-related topics, such as balancing work and study, eating well for less, and budgeting for student life.
- If you need further support, we can refer you to other areas of the University, such as Student Wellbeing, or to external organisations, such as Step Change.
How can I access your service?
We’ve worked hard to make accessing our service as easy as possible.
All you need to do is give our Student Services Helpdesk a call, and they’ll help set up an appointment which works for you.
You can meet with us face-to-face at Exton Park, or on Teams - whichever suits you best.
Throughout the academic year, we hold regular drop-in sessions across our sites, so you can come and have a quick chat without an appointment.
