Innovation and entrepreneurship are gaining recognition as vital tools to tackle increasing complex global problems. The MSc Innovation and Entrepreneurship course will enable you to enhance your entrepreneurial mindset, and network with entrepreneurs and industry professionals. It will also equip learners with essential skills to emerge as capable and responsible innovators and entrepreneurs, significantly contributing to worldwide sustainability efforts.

Learners will study the essentials of entrepreneurship, exploring the journey of starting, managing and scaling businesses, whilst integrating current insights into innovation and sustainability. With a strong emphasis on real-world application, the course offers a blend of lectures, case studies and workshops led by industry professionals, ensuring that students acquire a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial and innovation process from ideation to execution.

The course is designed to offer a blend of theoretical underpinning and industry thinking, including modules on leadership, financial management, innovative and entrepreneurial problem solving, and the importance of sustainable development, preparing students to build businesses that not only thrive economically but also contribute positively to society and the environment.

There is an option to choose a Project/Placement year for this course, at an additional cost.

Choosing a Professional Placement MSc is a win-win for your career, giving you the chance to get real experience, apply your cutting-edge skills in the workplace and stand out to future employers.

In the first year you will have help from the University to find a placement, whilst developing your expertise. You will then spend your second year out in industry on placement, getting the chance to work with industry professionals and grow your network of industry contacts. Bringing the latest business school insights to industry, you will get to make a difference to the workplace and make lasting links with your employer.

Students need to find and secure their own placement, supported by the University. A preparation module will also help you to get ready for your placement.


What you'llStudy

Our leadership and management modules are designed to hone strategic decision-making skills, while the finance module provides the knowledge necessary to navigate the financial challenges of starting and growing a business. The additional modules will encourage you to examine the role of innovation in relation to entrepreneurial thinking and business application, with a significant focus on developing a critical understanding of sustainability in a global business environment.
If you choose a placement or project year, the Research Dissertation module will be replaced by a placement or project module.

How you'll Learn

This course is taught by the University of Chester’s Chester Business School. You will learn by attending regular, scheduled sessions, which could be lectures, workshops, presentations, guest speaker talks, or case studies, as well as one-to-one sessions with your tutors.

The course consists of six 20 credit taught modules and a 60-credit Management Research Project, all at Level 7.

You will have access to contemporary practical IT suites, including 24/7 access to the onsite library.

Entry Requirements

2:2 honours degree

Students are required to have a 2:2 honours degree, or equivalent, in any discipline. 

Non-standard qualifications will be considered for entry on their own merit.

Candidates should also meet the University's requirements for English.

Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to UK A Level for undergraduate study and British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) for postgraduate study. Fees and Funding

£8,775for a full-time course (2025/26)

£15,000for a full-time course (2025/26)

The tuition fees for international students studying Postgraduate programmes in 2025/26 are £15,000.

Please note: For MSc programmes where a placement or project year is undertaken there will be an additional charge of £2,750 for the placement/project year (due at the start of the second year of the course).

The University of Chester offers generous international and merit-based scholarships for postgraduate study, providing a significant reduction to the published headline tuition fee. You will automatically be considered for these scholarships when your application is reviewed, and any award given will be stated on your offer letter.

Your course will involve additional costs not covered by your tuition fees. This may include books, printing, photocopying, educational stationery and related materials, specialist clothing, travel to placements, optional field trips and software. Compulsory field trips are covered by your tuition fees.
