French and Spanish BA (Hons) pathway
This pathway is part of our BA (Hons) Modern Languages course.
Whether you have an A Level or start as a beginner, on our French and Spanish pathway, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to master two European languages that are used in many countries worldwide and are enormously prevalent on the international stage. As the official language of many international institutions, from the United Nations to the International Olympic Committee, French is crucial, and its combination with Spanish – the second most spoken language by native speakers – will mean your multilingual skills are indispensable in both European and international trade, media and tourism. Both languages provide access to rich cultural traditions, from world-renowned literature to cinema and fashion, making this pathway a rewarding one for both your personal and professional growth.
This pathway gives you the chance to split your year abroad between French and Spanish-speaking worlds. With Chester’s strong network of partner universities, you have the option to study French in Spain or Spanish in France, enhancing your cross-cultural fluency. If you are starting as a beginner, you can also take advantage of our intensive summer course in Lyon, Costa Rica or Cuenca at the end of your second year, before you embark on your unforgettable year abroad.
As with all our pathways, you will have the option to add a subsidiary language to your studies. So, you can opt to study the following language combinations on this pathway:
- French and Spanish
- French and Spanish with German (post A Level, or beginner)
- French and Spanish with Chinese (post GCSE)
- French and Spanish with Italian (beginner)
