Nursing and Midwifery Selection Events

Read through our advice to learn about the next steps after you've been invited to a selection event.

How to prepare for our selection event

Selection Event information

During our selection event, you will be expected to complete a written exercise consisting of eleven Situational Judgment Tests (SJT), which is a way of assessing how you would react to certain situations. Each SJT will include a scenario and four possible responses to that scenario. You simply try to imagine yourself in each scenario and pick the response which is closest to how you would react if you were in that position. The scenarios will be everyday examples and there may not be a right or wrong answer, you just need to be as honest as possible and don’t overthink it.

The SJTs will be given to you on the day to complete as a written exercise and will then be reviewed that afternoon by a panel of an experienced academic member of staff, service user and or practise staff.

The selection day will start with a programme presentation, followed by the SJTs and then a tour of the facilities. Please note that you may be required to stay for up to three hours.

Where will my selection event take place?

In-person selection events will take place at one of our three teaching sites. The site will be clearly detailed in your invitation email. Please check your invitation email for the location and refer to our website for travel and transport information. Please check with Admissions if you are unsure.

If you do not receive an offer of a place on the course, feedback is available from the Health and Social Care Admissions team should you require it.

Important Information

We realise that you may want to share your experience of the selection day with others, however, we ask that you do not discuss the specific scenarios with other applicants, friends, or online. We would appreciate your cooperation with this.

If you require any additional support or assistance during the selection day due to a disability, medical condition or learning need, please contact the Health and Social Care Admissions team in advance.
