Student Code of Conduct
Responsible, Reasonable and Respectful Conduct
The University is a community, and you are a part of it. We want everyone to feel safe throughout their time at the University.
When you enrol at the University of Chester you agree to follow the Student Code of Conduct. It's your responsibility to know and follow these rules.
We understand you may have followed an alternative Code of Conduct at your previous institution/workplace; however it is important you follow our Code of Conduct during your time at the University.
Here is a summary of the Code of Conduct:
As a student, you are part of both the University community and the wider local community. The University expects you to act responsibly and respectfully in all situations, whether on campus or elsewhere while representing the University. Here's what you need to keep in mind:
- Respect Others: Always be considerate, courteous, and respectful to everyone. This includes having respect for everyone’s physical space and not touching people without their permission.
- Avoid Harm: Don't do anything that could harm or distress others.
- No Discrimination: Avoid any behaviour that could offend or distress others because of the protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
- Take Care of University Resources: Use the University’s facilities and services responsibly.
- Follow the Rules: Stick to all university and legal rules, including those about academic regulations, health and safety, equal opportunities, Residential Living rules and requirements of Professional, Regulatory or Statutory Bodies (these are especially important if you are doing a course that leads to registration with a professional body e.g. nursing, teaching, social work, policing, medicine, nutrition and dietetics).
- Don't Disrupt University Operations: Avoid actions that could interfere with the University’s normal activities or harm its reputation.
- Health & Safety: Follow any health and safety guidelines, including those set by the government or the University.
The University does not tolerate any offences against a person including, but not limited to, assault, sexual assault or sexual violence, domestic violence or discrimination or harassment of any kind, whether verbal or physical and in any form or medium, including in any online space or context; such misconduct will be dealt with severely.
