As a multidisciplinary academic with formal learning and teaching experiences in Australia, Japan, New Zealand and UK, I use my discipline background in sport pedagogy and teacher education to inform my current research on international educational leadership and academic practice. This international perspective drives my interest in exploring how education leadership opportunities are presented to and accessed by colleagues working in higher education. I regularly collaborate on research projects with colleagues from France, USA, UK, Spain, New Zealand and Australia and combine my research and teaching commitments with a range of responsibilities as an external examiner of tertiary education programmes and as a reviewer for numerous education-based research journals.

As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy I am also committed to working with colleagues to advance their teaching, learning and curriculum design capabilities for the benefit of student learning. My consultancy work extends to involvement with both the Chevening Secretariat and Turing schemes in the UK.

I am interested in exploring the relationships we have with the idea of leadership and its practice in educational settings. Through the critical exploration of educational leadership practices we can learn an incredible amount about those who lead, those who are being led, and the effective attainment of educational outcomes. Furthermore, by studying the leadership practices of those operating in other sectors and climates, it can be argued that a more evolved understanding of effective leadership practice can ensue. It is this intersection of leadership comparison and contrast that peaks my research interest the most.
