Our Historic University City
The University and the city are intrinsically linked. As a multi-site university spread across the historic city of Chester, the student experience is inherently connected to the city. In effect, the city is our campus, and Chester is the backdrop for where many of our students work, play and learn.
We are well connected to both public and private sector businesses, meaning that we are able to enrich the student experience through these connections, and add value to the city. This puts us at the centre of contributing to the local economy and making a difference to the community. With the shared ambition to drive positive change for the region, our partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council further cements our place and commitment to the city. We have a strong track record of collaborating with the council including through contributions to the One City Plan.

Our Approach Student Engagement
Our students are at the core of everything we do, so to help with delivering a holistic highly valuable student experience with a real sense of community and belonging we:
- collaborate with students as partners, providing students with opportunities to influence policy and change
- foster an inclusive student experience with an understanding that some students face additional barriers to engagement
- enable students to build their social capital by supporting them to develop their networks and linking academic learning to the real world.
Our Approach Research & Knowledge Exchange
With over half of our research rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent (Research Excellence Framework, 2021), we are proud to support the development of three Research Knowledge Exchange Institutes (RKEIs).
Each institute shares the same overarching aim of bringing together researchers, staff and students to foster interdisciplinary working. By strengthening existing relationships and building new collaborations, the RKEIs are well-placed to work closely with external partners and communities, meaning the University is actively able to make a positive difference to society.
