Beauty and fragility of natural world to be showcased in new Chester art exhibition
A free new nature-themed art exhibition, curated by University of Chester graduates, will be on display in Chester city centre next month.
Remember Nature is a group exhibition featuring artists from the UK and beyond and will be available to see between November 1 and November 9 at Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces in Unit 12, Grosvenor Shopping Centre.
The exhibition has been curated by artists Estelle Woolley and Jill Walker, MA Fine Art graduates from the University of Chester, whose own artistic practices are rooted in a slow, gentle and a tactile engagement with natural materials.
As well as being available to visit on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesday and Fridays between 1-4pm, there will also be a special opening event on Tuesday, November 4, between 4-6pm, to mark Remember Nature 2025.
This exhibition brings together a diverse range of artists whose practices reflect on and respond to the natural world, its fragility, and our relationship with it. The works offer gentle, thoughtful, and confrontational interpretations, emphasising the wonder, vulnerability, and quiet resilience of nature.
Dr Jeremy Turner, Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, said: “As Fine Art graduates of the University of Chester, Jill and Estelle are well equipped to continue with their individual artistic practice and output. It’s gratifying therefore to see those programme-based skills and approaches being extended into broader curatorial practice with this exhibition in association with Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, whilst also engaging with broader cultural and critical concerns.”
Joining Estelle and Jill’s artworks will be pieces by artists including Steve Carrick, Tim Foxon, Melanie K King, Lydia O’Hara, Nina Sinkkonen Kotala and more.
Remember Nature was instigated by artist Gustav Metzger, whose work addresses climate change and its effects. Now observed worldwide each year on November 4, the day invites creatives across disciplines to respond to the climate crisis with care and imagination.
New Art Spaces are temporary artist-led studios and exhibition spaces across the North West. These spaces breathe new life into underused buildings while providing artists with vital space to create, exhibit, and engage with local communities. The exhibition has been kindly supported by Castlefield Gallery, Manchester.
