Benefits of Vitamin D explored in public lecture
The benefits of Vitamin D will be explored in a public lecture at the University of Chester.

Dr Sohail Mushtaq, Deputy Head of Allied Health at the University, will present Vitamin D – it's not just for bones! on Thursday, February 13 in Anna Sutton 017, at the Exton Park campus from 6pm to 7pm.
Vitamin D is essential not only for bone health and preventing conditions such as osteoporosis but also plays a significant role in regulating the immune system, helping to fend off infections and reduce inflammation. Vitamin D deficiency may also potentially impact chronic disease outcomes. Sohail will delve into the importance of the ‘sunshine vitamin’ and share the findings of research into vitamin D and health, conducted at the University of Chester.
Sohail is an Associate Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry and is Programme Leader for MSc Human Nutrition in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society.
Sohail said: " Maintaining adequate Vitamin D status is crucial for overall health, yet many people are deficient in this essential nutrient. This lecture will explore the many benefits of Vitamin D and how it can positively impact our daily lives.”
The lecture is part of the Chester Ideas 2024/25 event series. The Festival of Ideas is a programme of free, inclusive and accessible public events on a wide range of themes in and around Chester, co-created by the University of Chester and external stakeholders and city partners.
