Hundreds of students discover ways to give back at University Volunteering Fair

Opportunities on offer came from more than 30 organisations including Cats Protection; Claire House Children’s Hospice; Street Angels Chester and Vision Support. 

Open to all students, the event took place at the Exton Park campus with interest so high that this was the second fair held this academic year. More than 500 students in total attended the fairs. 

Feedback from the event included: “Well worth attending” from Cafe 71; Cats Protection said that the “students were so polite and inquisitive” and a student taking part in the Batty for Mammals project said the event “gives a lot of student opportunities that they would not have otherwise”. 

Angie Standish, Head of Careers and Employability at the University of Chester, said: “It is fantastic to see so many of our students engage with this event. Volunteering not only gives back to so many deserving organisations it also provides skills and experience for when our students enter the workplace.” 

Amber Gaffoor, Venture and Volunteering Co-ordinator, said: “Our kind-hearted students are committed to giving back to the community around them and we’d like to thank all the organisations for taking the time to meet with them and provide such fantastic opportunities.”
