Professor Kate Knight to deliver inaugural lecture inspired by lessons from children
Drawing on the lessons children have taught her throughout her career, Kate Knight, Professor of Practice Education and Simulated Learning, will deliver her inaugural lecture at the University of Chester on Thursday, April 30.
Taking place in-person and online, the lecture - A Journey of Care, Courage and Change - will offer a powerful reflection on a career shaped by children, driven by compassion and defined by innovation across education and healthcare leadership.
Kate is an Associate Dean in the Chester Medical School within the University’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society. Last year she was named a National Teaching Fellow by Advance HE - one of the most prestigious individual awards in UK higher education. The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) recognises and celebrates individuals who have made an exceptional impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession.
Kate began her career as a registered children’s nurse. Throughout her professional journey, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to improving the lives of children, young people and communities using her voice to champion care, equity, and opportunity.
She represents the institution at a wide range of international, national and regional stakeholder groups and has reshaped practice learning at the University of Chester by developing a bespoke model that has grown into a nationally and internationally recognised provision. She has significantly expanded placement opportunities for students across regional health programmes, ensuring high‑quality, safe and inclusive learning environments.
Nationally acknowledged for her pioneering work in student placement models, Kate has designed and led innovative approaches that address critical placement shortages while strengthening governance, safeguarding and inclusivity across practice education.
The lecture takes place from 6.30pm to 8pm in the School of Education building room 018 at the University’s Exton Park campus. It is free to attend with booking essential.
