My years were 1956 -1958, we were only allowed female visitors on Wednesday and Sunday from 2pm to 7pm. My fiancé Cynthia Copeland visited regularly, and we got married during the Christmas break in 1957. However, rules had to maintained and we stuck to them. A good job we did as a married colleague was sent down because his wife had stayed overnight! Those were the days!!

I met my husband (Kelvin Young) at Chester College in September 1969 when we were both training to teach. I was a second-year student at the nearby Cartrefle College in Wrexham and my close friend had a boyfriend who was a third-year student at Chester College. One evening I accompanied her to Chester College, where I met her boyfriend's roommate, Kelvin. The four of us spent the evening at The Boat House pub on the banks of the River Dee. That “blind date” marked the beginning of a life-long relationship. We were married in 1972 and have spent all fifty-two years of our married life in East Yorkshire. Chester still holds cherished memories for us.
Mary Young (nee Wallace)
My wife and I studied at Chester from 1969 to 1972. We met during our second year when unknown to each other we were both elected to study a new course specialising in children with special educational needs. We didn't start going out until the Easter of 1971 and married in August 1973, after leaving Chester in 1972.
We celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2023.

My fiancé and I met at the University of Chester over 10 years ago. We were placed on the same corridor in Sumner House (the first year it opened so whoever has those rooms now we were the originals!). After two years of being friends we finally got together and have been in love ever since. Three years ago, we came back to Chester for the first time since graduation and got engaged in the same place we fell in love. We are visiting Chester in February for the last time as boyfriend and girlfriend before we get married in April. Chester and the University of Chester gave me many things, but she is the greatest gift of all. Thank you CH1!

We did not find love at the University of Chester...however we have made it a family affair!
We got married in 2014 after a long-distance relationship, he moved from London to Liverpool so we could be together. Leaving behind his music tech course at UWL. In 2018 I started at Chester on a foundation degree. Progressing to UG in philosophy, ethics, and religion. Then in 2021, as I entered third year, Andy made the decision to go back to his music passion and joined me at the University of Chester. I graduated in November 2022 and immediately re-enrolled for my MA in Religion part time. This meant, we shared our MA and UG graduation on the same day on 8th November 2024.
But our UoC journey does not stop there!
I am now back once again as a PhD student in theology and religion. As for Andy...well after passing with a first, he has now joined the I.T department in professional services. To make things just a little sweeter, our daughter just sent in her UCAS for UoC in Law.
We made so many memories at the University of Chester and we have many more years of stories to make more!
