University of Chester library staff and students think pink for breast cancer charity

Libraries across the University of Chester campuses were in the pink recently to support a breast cancer charity.
Students and staff showed their support for the week-long Libraries Wear it Pink fundraiser, with cake and craft sales held at the Marriss House, Queen's Park, Wheeler and Seaborne libraries.
Staff members were encouraged to wear pink, while the cake stall at Wheeler was organised by students Izzy Hann, Supriya Mishra, Molly Evans, Cliodhna Heuston, Stephanie Appentsen, Lauryn Keogh and Francesca Pitfield. Even Kit, the library cat, helped set up the Seaborne stand.
The fundraising and awareness campaign for breast cancer was held in aid of Breast Cancer Now, with a fantastic sum of £832 collected for the charity. It was particularly meaningful as several members of library staff are breast cancer survivors.
Caitlyn Hallman-Lewis, Academic Liaison Librarian and lead organiser of Libraries Wear it Pink, said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the university community. It far exceeded any of my hopes and expectations. I am particularly touched by the support from our students.”
Izzy, one of a group of graduate Medicine students who recently launched a Women’s Health Society, added: “One of our key goals as a society is to engage in charitable fundraising, so we were excited to join forces with the library team for their Wear It Pink bake sale in support of Breast Cancer Now.
“The event was a great success, with many from our cohort showing their support by baking and wearing pink. We look forward to participating in more charitable initiatives throughout the academic year.”
