Why Study at Chester Business School?
Second year student Mali tells us why she thinks you should study at the award-winning Chester Business School.

A little bit about me
Hi there! I’m Mali, in my second year studying Business Management and Marketing. Originally from a little village in North Wales, I decided to take a gap year before heading to university due to the pandemic, which was a great choice! I was thrilled to be accepted to study at Chester Business School. I have just secured a placement with Enterprise in the summer of 2025, which I am looking forward to starting. In 2024, I completed the Manchester Half Marathon alongside my twin sister to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society, a charity dear to us. I derive pleasure from attending the gym, engaging in running, and participating in rugby on behalf of the university.
Three reasons to study at the award-winning Chester Business School?
The first reason you should chose to study here is you're just not a number; the lecturers know each student by name. As a first-year student, you might feel you can manage on your own with assignments, but now, in my second year, I regularly seek feedback to enhance my performance, which is essential for attaining high grades.
The second reason to attend Chester Business School is the beautiful campus and surrounding views. Walking to campus is delightful, especially on sunny days, and crossing the Queen’s Park Bridge offers stunning views of the campus.
My third reason is the academic commitment; all the lecturers genuinely want their students to succeed, and there is abundant support from the faculty and the ASK team. Utilising these resources greatly helps students stay academically motivated.
What I enjoy about my course
Chester is an excellent choice for studying, boasting a fantastic location near the Business School and additional campuses. I am working towards a Business Management degree focused on Marketing, which includes a placement year—an engaging aspect I encountered when beginning my course. In my first year, I had a wide range of options, with Developing Professional Practice and Practical Marketing emerging as my favourites. These modules provided essential insights into securing placements.
One thing I love about studying in Chester is meeting new people through lectures, engaging with guest speakers, and interacting with fellow students. You get to learn something new every day about them. At the University of Chester, you're known for being yourself; the lecturers know you by name and genuinely want everyone to succeed and earn their degree. This year, I felt well-equipped and notably advantaged, mainly since Practical Marketing was one of my preferred subjects. It comprehensively examined Chester Cathedral's marketing strategies and event management.
In my first year, I participated in two university trips: one to the cathedral, which captivated me on my initial visit due to its striking beauty, and another to Staffordshire, where we toured Warwick Castle. This two-day trip included numerous activities, such as a Shakespeare tour and visits to the castle.
My tips for starting a university in September
- Agree to everything, this may seem cliché, yet it's how I connect with my closest friends.
- Consider joining a society; it doesn’t necessarily need to be sports-related, but it's beneficial.
- Stay on top of university deadlines whilst also enjoying university life.
