Why You Should Attend an Open Day
Student Ambassador, Jazmine, shares her thoughts on why attending an Open Day is so useful.
While an Open Day can seem like a daunting experience for prospective students wanting to check out the University and see what it has to offer, it is actually very useful. You have nothing to worry about as you will have full support throughout your day.
Subject and Information Sessions
By attending an Open Day, you are able to join subject and information sessions about your chosen course; giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the course you want to study, and the experience of studying that subject. There are also events taking place throughout the day which enable you to ask questions and gain advice on anything that you may be unsure about, which may include finance, admissions, disability and inclusion, or safety, amongst other topics. At Open Days there are also Information Fairs taking place which are the place to go for help with all admin-related queries, and there are stalls to find out more about student support and extracurriculars which are available as well.
Campus Tours, Viewing Accommodation and Facilities
You can view the campus in person and see the wide range of accessible study areas. For example, in Chester, we have the library, individual study spaces, and group study areas, as well as the sports facilities including the sports hall, swimming pool, gym, and astro pitches. A selection of accommodation options are also available to view during an Open Day. At Chester, these regularly include Grosvenor House, Astbury and Fisher House, Church College Close and Hollybank. Viewing accommodation in real life is a great way to find out which type of accommodation you would prefer, and our Student Ambassadors are able to help with any questions about accommodation or personal experience.
Take a Stroll Around the City
After your subject sessions, you will have some time to be able to explore the area more and wander into the city, if you choose to. There are loads of options when it comes to shops, restaurants, cafes, or just somewhere to grab a quick drink. The afternoon is definitely not long enough to fully explore what Chester has to offer but wandering the rows and town centre can certainly give you a good idea. If you have some extra time, you can even explore some of the historical sights of Chester, but if not, save that for another time.
Ask Questions and Gain Insight
Throughout the Open Day, our Student Ambassadors are on hand to chat to you about university life, which you should be able to get a real feel for by attending an Open Day. They can talk to you about their own university experiences, or about the city itself. An Open Day really is the perfect opportunity to ask all your unanswered questions, and truly open up to which university you feel suits you best.
