IF I WAS A WORM

Amy Bancroft

Would you still love me
if I was a worm?
Would you cup me in your hands
and shake away the mud?
If I was a worm
I would cleave my body into two.
The strong and the vulnerable.
I know that
you would love both parts.
If I was a worm
I would nestle into the apple core
of your heart
and stay there.
A squirming thing.
You are the bird
who scoops me up
and swallows me whole.
