The Philip Barker Centre for Creative Learning

Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. – Article 27, UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948)

The Philip Barker Centre for Creative Learning was established in 2016 to stimulate, support and explore creativity and the arts across the life course and increasing interest in the use of the arts in health and social care. As a result we take a life course approach in stimulating, supporting and exploring engagement with creativity and the arts. We have an extensive network of collaborators from across arts/culture, education, health, academia and social care sectors.

We do this by:

  • Creating opportunities for collaborations to develop integrated practice between artists, educators, health and social care professionals.
  • Developing creative experiences which challenge growing social, cultural and health inequalities.
  • Generating evidence of people’s creative experiences, and
  • Advocating for integrated practice so that people feel enabled to reach their full potential.

We are named after the Philip Barker Charity, which supports the advancement of education and health of people of all ages. The Philip Barker Charity has a long tradition of supporting initiatives in the North West of England and we are extremely grateful to the Trustees for their continued guidance, advice, support and encouragement.
