Spanish and Latin American Studies BA (Hons) pathway
This pathway is part of our BA (Hons) Modern Languages course.
Whether you have an A Level or start as a beginner, our Spanish and Latin American Studies pathway offers an exciting exploration of the Spanish-speaking world, from the historic heart of Spain to the diverse and vibrant cultures of Latin America. On this pathway, you will study the histories, societies and cultural landscapes of Spanish-speaking countries across Europe and the Americas and will open doors to rich experiences. You will also become a highly employable graduate; the widespread use of Spanish in international trade, politics and cultural exchange makes it a key asset in today’s job market.
Each Spanish-speaking country and each region of Spain has its own unique ‘flavour’, and mastering the language will provide you with a deeper understanding of diverse traditions, histories and social dynamics. What makes this pathway unique is the opportunity to study both Spain and Latin America exclusively, and in depth. You’ll explore modules that compare their histories, societies and cultures, gaining a rich understanding of both regions. At the end of your second year, you’ll have the option to spend a month in Costa Rica before embarking on your year abroad in Spain. You can then fully explore Spain by studying at one of our partner universities, or apply for a British Council English Language Assistantship. If Latin America is calling you, you can spend a semester in Puebla, Mexico, a vibrant city rich in culture and history.
As with all our pathways, you will have the option to add a subsidiary language to your studies. So, you can opt to study the following language combinations on this pathway:
- Spanish and Latin American Studies
- Spanish and Latin American Studies with German (post A Level, or beginner)
- Spanish and Latin American Studies with Italian (beginner)
- Spanish and Latin American Studies with French (post A Level, post GCSE)
- Spanish and Latin American Studies with Chinese (post GCSE)
