Art and Design

Our expert staff are committed to providing a high-quality, person-centred experience that will develop your individual, creative and research potential. We provide taught and research postgraduate qualifications from Master’s to PhD level. The Chester Centre for Research in Arts and Media (CCRAM) offers regular opportunities to join our research community, share ideas and find support.

Access a wide range of traditional and digital tools and technologies in our subject-specific workshops and studios including photography lighting studios and dark rooms, digital printing, traditional printmaking, 3D printing, AR and VR technology, Mac and PC suites and wood and metal working. We also benefit from a dedicated on-site library with librarian support.

Many of our staff actively exhibit and publish work to an international audience. Our staff's research encompasses art and design media specialisms, practice methodologies and theoretical perspectives in four interdisciplinary themes: (im)materiality; embodiment, narrative and performance practice; everyday objects, habitus and thingness; and place, space and site.
