Languages and Cultures

Postgraduate studies in modern languages and language-based area studies provide opportunities for career development for those planning to enter professions requiring high-level language skills, and are also very well adapted to the needs of applicants already engaged in professional life. Our courses have a supportive atmosphere, while also being dynamic and innovative.

The Department of Languages and Cultures is based in the Binks Building at Exton Park, Chester. There is an international flavour to the Department, with many students from continental Europe studying here. Our MA Language, Cultures and Translation is delivered online so you can study wherever you are.

With a vibrant and growing team of researchers, supervision is provided in a wide variety of subjects with opportunities to pursue your own academic interests through research degrees. Staff speak French, German, Mandarin and Spanish, and topics currently explored include identity formation, cultural resistance and global change.
