Chinese and Spanish BA (Hons) pathway

Whether you have an A Level or start as a beginner, if you choose the Chinese and Spanish pathway you will have the inspiring opportunity to immerse yourself in two of the world’s most widely spoken and influential languages. Through this combination you will open doors to understanding the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and rapidly evolving economies of both China and the Spanish-speaking world. Chinese is spoken by over a billion people, and through incorporating this language into your studies you will be introduced to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, as well as a country that continues to shape global markets and politics. Proficiency in Chinese provides invaluable skills for careers in international business, diplomacy, technology, and education. Spanish, too, is spoken across more than 20 countries and is a language of considerable global influence; spoken by over 500 million people across the world, studying Spanish will connect you to a broad spectrum of cultures from Spain to Latin America.

This pathway provides the exciting opportunity to split your year abroad between the dynamic urban centres of China and the colourful, diverse regions of Spanish-speaking countries. For an innovative, multicultural experience, you can also study Chinese while living in Spain, through Chester’s strong partnership with universities in the country.

As with all our pathways, you will have the option to add a subsidiary language to your studies. So, you can opt to study the following language combinations on this pathway:

• Chinese and Spanish
• Chinese and Spanish with French (post GCSE)
• Chinese and Spanish with German (post A Level, or beginner)
• Chinese and Spanish with Italian (beginner)
