University of Chester Enterprise Launchpad inspires aspiring entrepreneurs
Students, graduates and members of the local community met industry experts at the University of Chester’s inaugural Enterprise Launchpad.
The event, part of the University’s Venture Programme, welcomed over 125 attendees for two days of practical entrepreneurship and collaboration at The Crowne Plaza and Storyhouse, reflecting strong interest from those looking to develop ideas, build confidence, and take their first steps into business.
Participants took part in hands-on workshops, networking sessions, and sessions led by founders and industry professionals, helping them take practical steps forward with their ideas.
The first day saw guest speakers including The Growth Playground founder Rebecca Robinson advise on Where to Start When You Don’t Know How to Get Started, and CEO of West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce Sarah Bailey talk on How to Put Together a Business Plan.

A key message throughout was the importance of getting started, encouraging attendees to take action, test ideas and make a start, rather than waiting for the perfect timing that doesn’t exist.
A highlight of the second day was a social media masterclass led by TheSocialMediaOga founder Omobolaji Ajibare, who explored how entrepreneurs can turn their online presence into a strategic tool for business growth. Attendees gained practical insights into building content, engaging audiences, and creating opportunities for income through digital platforms.
The second day also featured an alumni founder panel where past Venture Pitch winners shared honest insights into their journeys, including the challenges of rejection, the value of feedback, and the importance of resilience and community.

Describing her experience, MSc Health Services Management student Kateryna Gudzenko said: “Enterprise Launchpad was exceptionally well-structured. Day one gave me concrete answers to the business plan questions I had been wrestling with and taught me the core principles of building a strong pitch, while day two delivered the emotional momentum that made me genuinely want to stand alongside the alumni winners.
“Most importantly, I left knowing I'm surrounded by a team of experts ready to help turn ideas into reality – and that I’m not alone in this drive to build my own business."
Following her session, Sarah Bailey said: “It was a real pleasure to deliver a session as part of Enterprise Launchpad and see participants so open to developing their ideas into structured business plans.
“The energy in the room was fantastic, and it’s clear there’s a strong appetite for turning ideas into action. It’s brilliant to see programmes like this helping to build confidence and capability in our future entrepreneurs.”
Alongside entrepreneurial skills, the Launchpad emphasised wellbeing and sustainability, encouraging participants to consider how they manage their time and energy as they develop their ventures.
Reflecting on the event, Amber Gaffoor and Jadesola Kareem from the Venture team said: “There is something really special about every Venture Programme event. The energy that comes from bringing together students, graduates and members of the community to explore enterprise in such a supportive way is always brilliant to see.

“A huge amount of work goes into making the event happen, but it’s the students and those who come back to support new entrepreneurs that really make it what it is. The energy across both days showed a real appetite for turning ideas into action, and we’re excited to see what comes next for everyone involved.”
Following the success of the Enterprise Launchpad, participants are now encouraged to continue their journey through the Venture Programme, including the upcoming Venture Pitch opportunity in June, which has seen an increase in applications following the Enterprise Launchpad.
The Venture Programme supports students and graduates in developing entrepreneurial skills, launching businesses, and connecting with industry expertise through events, mentoring, and practical learning opportunities.
