Visiting Professor elected President Elect of British Geriatrics Society

Professor Vernon has been a Visiting Professor at Chester since 2016, working with colleagues in the Centre for Ageing and Mental Health on research, teaching and education focused on population ageing, frailty and national health policy.

A nationally recognised leader in geriatric medicine, Professor Vernon previously served as National Clinical Director for Older People at NHS England and has played a significant role in shaping policy and services for older people across the UK.

Following a two-year term as President Elect, he will become President of the BGS in 2028.

Professor Vernon will begin his term as President Elect at the BGS Autumn Meeting in November.

Professor Vernon said: "I am humbled by the honour of becoming the next BGS President Elect and will bring my energy, drive and commitment to ensuring older people's healthcare becomes one of the defining successes of NHS reforms across the UK. I am also pleased to continue working with colleagues at the University of Chester to support better outcomes for older people through research, education and collaboration."
