Why do you want to study this course?

Example answer:

"I've enjoyed studying [SUBJECT] at college/sixth form and I can see myself building a career as a [CAREER NAME]. The [MODULE NAME/ COURSE FEATURE] really appeals to me because [WHY IT INTERESTS YOU]."

Why are you interested in our university?

Example answer:

"I've researched the course and the University's facilities. I particularly like [SOMETHING SPECIFIC] and [SECOND REASON WHY]."

What are your grades?

Have the following to hand and write them down in front of you.

• Qualification grades, e.g., A Level results, BTEC grades, Scottish Highers, International qualifications
• GCSE Maths and English grades

What future career are you looking for?

Example answer:

"I'm still exploring my options, but I'd like to develop skills that could help me pursue a career in [CAREER] after graduation."

Why are you applying through Clearing?

Keep it honest and positive; our advisers know that finding your place through Clearing can be for exciting and new opportunities, or it may be after you've had to change direction.

Example answer:

"I've reconsidered my options and realised this university is a better fit for my interests and goals."

NOT

"I just need somewhere to go."

• GCSE grades
• Personal statement (You may want to highlight some key snippets as you won’t be able to recite it all!)
• Course shortlist
• Notebook and pen
