Your guide to university systems and technology
Take a look at the key systems and technology you’ll need for your course.
Keen to get to grips with the systems and technology you’ll need for your course?
Let's take a closer look.
UoC app
The UoC app is an essential download for your time at the University. You'll need it to access your timetable, check into your lectures, access your student email, view the latest events and more! Plus, you can find lots of useful support info on the app too!
Moodle
Moodle is our virtual learning environment (VLE), which is where you can find online learning activities, content to prepare for your scheduled learning sessions, and crucial assessment information. You'll automatically be enrolled on a number of module sites each year, which will appear on your Moodle dashboard.
Portal
Portal is our student intranet - and it's a great place to start if you're looking for something specific. You can use it to view your timetable, access your emails, log into eVision, view key support info and more.
All students have a dedicated student email address and inbox. We use this email address to send important university news and updates - and it's the main way staff at the University will contact you, so it's really important to check it regularly. You can access it via the UoC app, Portal and via Outlook online.
OneDrive
OneDrive is your dedicated online cloud storage for all your university files and documents. All students get 1TB of storage - and because it's cloud-based, you can access it on a number of devices - just login with your student login details.
eVision
eVision is a system which allows you to complete key tasks like update your address, enrol online and access your assessment results following an assessment board.
Turnitin
The majority of your written coursework will be submitted through your module page on Moodle using Turnitin. Turnitin is text-matching software that checks text for matches against the Internet, eBooks and resources, other assignments in your class and all assignments from around the world that have ever been submitted through Turnitin. This helps us to identify academic malpractice in the forms of plagiarism and collusion.
If you get stuck with anything, our LIS team can help. You can contact them via the LIS Helpdesk or by visiting them in-person at any of the LIS Helpdesks in our libraries.
